Maury County Commission New Industry

Maury County Mayor Jim Bailey reported to the county commission Tuesday, General Motors is getting ready to announce plans for the Spring Hill Plant. The Mayor said it involves employment.
The Maury County commission’s budget committee voted to approve the sale of land in the Cherry Glen industrial park to an undisclosed new company for $7,000 an acre. The total price would be $35,000 for 5 acres in the Cherry Glen site. The sale was fully supported but a proposal to give the funding to the County Industry Development Board, without restrictions, got some opposition. Commissioner Scott Cepicki said the $35,000 should go to the board for industrial recruitment and development. 30 to 50 jobs would be involved.
The full county commission voted on the sale proposal at its meeting this month.
Budget Committee Chairman Sonny Shackleford said the resolution would prove the funding to the Industrial development board for improvements in Cherry Glen.
Commission Scott Cepicki said no money is allocated to the Industrial Development Board. He said the County Commission needs to be all in for industrial development. Cepicki sited the 11.1% unemployment.
