A Columbia shooting left two people dead Wednesday morning outside a market on East James Campbell Blvd.
Columbia Police say a man shot and killed a 37 year old woman and wounded a 21 year old man. He then turned the gun on himself.
The victims are identified as Jada Renee Baxter, 37, and Ronald Walton Glass, 62. Anthony Clinton Kelley, 21, is stable condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
“The Columbia Police received calls to 235 East James Campbell Blvd for multiple gunshot victims,” said Lt. Jeremy Alsup.
“The preliminary investigation and witness accounts indicate that Baxter and Kelley were together on the lot of the Gulf Station with their vehicle parked at the gas pumps,” said Lt.Alsup. “Glass arrived in his pickup truck and shot both Baxter and Kelley, and then turned the gun on himself,” according to Lt.Alsup.
A handgun was found in the truck driven by Glass. The first calls to police indicated that the shooter was running from the scene. This person however, was determined to be one of the victims, Anthony Kelley.
Lt. Alsup said the shootings were not random in nature. Detectives have confirmed that all involved were acquainted with each other. At this time, the motive for the shootings is unknown, and a determination has not been made as to what, if any, relationship existed between them.
“The Columbia Police received calls to 235 East James Campbell Blvd for multiple gunshot victims,” said Officer Jeremy Alsup. The shooting occurred shortly after 8 am at the Gulf Station on Campbell Blvd.
“We do not think this was a random event. I believe everyone involved knew each other.
Police said more information will available later.
