With people still out of work and needing jobs, the Maury County Career Center Tuesday was filled with people looking for work during a jobs fair attended by 14 local companies.
“It’s exciting and encouraging,” said Paige Liggett with Workforce Development. “With the TGR announcement the other day, that’s 60 more jobs for this area we didn’t have,” she said.
“Companies are starting to hire again and the tide is starting to turn a little bit,” said Liggett with the Workforce Development Office.
IB Tech was looking for 130 employees to go to work right away. It was estimated that TRG could be looking for up to 80 people.
Maury County’s unemployment rate has been up as high as 15% but has been dropping recently. Several thousand people are still on the unemployment rolls, and its estimated many more are under employed.
