Columbia City Budget and Sewer Rate Increase

The Columbia city council began looking at a $55-million dollar budget and also another sewer rate increase.
Columbia council members Tuesday worked with city officials to keep the city from increasing the property tax rate and leave it at $1.31 per hundred dollars assessed value. A proposal to increase it to $1.35 was cut when a list of capital improvements were taken out. The budget does include a 4% cost of living salary increase for employees.
The sewer rate increase comes on top of last years rate increase . The city is proposing to raise the sewer rate by $1.20 this year and $1.20 next year for customers using 5,000 gallons per month. The current typical monthly sewer rate bill of $39.49 would increase to $40.69 and $41.89 respectively over 2 years.
